The Burgess family and the Elida community are deeply saddened by the passing of Nathanial John Burgess, who left this world on June 5, 2026, at the age of 11, just days before his 12th birthday. His sudden departure has left a profound sense of grief among his family, friends, classmates, and all who were blessed to know him.
Born on June 18, 2014, in Lima, Nathanial was the beloved son of Brent and Kathlene (Miller) Burgess. He was welcomed at home by his siblings Makaya, Hunter, Victoria, Klair, Karley, and his bonus brother Jamal. He also shared a special bond with his niece Athena and nephew Jason, whose smiles always brightened his days. Nathanial was surrounded by a large and loving extended family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who cherished him deeply.
Nathanial had just completed 6th grade at Elida Middle School. He was a bright, spirited boy with a gentle personality and a quiet, thoughtful nature. Though he may have joked about school, he showed curiosity in many things and enjoyed exploring life in his own way. He spent much of his time enjoying Roblox, riding his dirt bike, and sharing adventures outdoors with his best friend DeShawn, creating memories filled with laughter and friendship.
Those who knew Nathanial describe him as soft-spoken, easy-going, and kind-hearted, with an “old soul” presence that made him special beyond his years. He had a playful sense of humor and a loving spirit that brought comfort and joy to those around him. Above all, he was deeply loved and will be forever remembered by his family as their “handsome boy.”
The Burgess family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support received during this unimaginable time of loss.
Nathanial’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
