For more than three decades, Mitchell devoted his life to serving the people of Passaic County and surrounding communities. Known for his professionalism and calm presence, he earned the respect of colleagues, students, educators, and residents through years of dedicated service in law enforcement, emergency response, and school safety.
Mitchell spent over 25 years with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, serving in several key assignments throughout his distinguished career. His responsibilities included providing security at the Passaic County Superior Courts, overseeing operations at the Passaic County Jail, and later serving as a Corporal in the Patrol Division. In every role, he demonstrated strong leadership, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to public safety.
Beyond law enforcement, Mitchell served for 18 years as a certified Emergency Medical Technician, providing assistance during emergencies and supporting communities throughout Passaic County. His willingness to help others in times of need became one of the hallmarks of his career.
Following his retirement from the Sheriff’s Department, Mitchell continued serving as a School Resource Officer and security professional. He worked with the Paterson Board of Education and later the Totowa Board of Education, where he became a trusted advocate for student safety and well-being. Students and staff alike appreciated his approachable nature and dedication to creating secure learning environments.
In addition to his educational roles, Mitchell also served as a Federal Security Officer responsible for protecting Department of Homeland Security facilities.
